Parental Involvement

Parents are welcome to visit school at any time.  We value parental involvement, either in relation to their own child's education, or in relation to school activities and events in general such as hearing children read.  All helpers in school are asked to provide a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate or one is applied for through Northumberland County Council.

News Letters and the Home Page of the website keep parents informed of events in school.

Parents are encouraged to support our weekly Talk Topics by discussing the topic of the week, encouraging children to express opinions and give reasons for their opinions. These topics are part of our Personal, Social and Health Education programme and relate to our weekly Acts of Collective Worship themes.

The Oxford publishing company, which produces the Oxford Reading Tree books, has some useful resources to help parents support their child's reading and maths development.  The website address is www.oxfordowl.co.uk and the school/class login is Username:scremerston, Password:pop123.

Our Calculation Guide helps parents to support their children in Maths by providing guidance on how different types of calculations are taught within school.  Any parents who would like further support or guidance should speak to their child's Class teacher or to our Maths Subject Leader, Mrs. Bryony Haggerstone.

The school has an active Parents',  Teachers' and Friends Association, of which every parent is automatically a member.  Events organised by the P.T.F.A. may be social and/or fund-raising events.  Money raised in this way is of great benefit to the school, for example, in helping purchase various items of equipment and to support the cost of educational visits.

In January we hold the Annual General Meeting of the P.T.F.A. when new committee members are elected.

Part of Our Community

The school enjoys close links with our local community, including organisations such as local churches, the Rotary Club and local charities. Within our grounds, and managed by the school, is Scremerston Community Building.

This provides a home for Lucky Ducks independent Pre-School for children aged 2½ - 4 years. There is also a Community Room which is used by our Parents and Toddlers group, by adult and family learning courses and for meetings of groups such as the Parish Council.
